Group gives people an ongoing source of support and understanding as well as an opportunity to more deeply understand relational "blind spots." When our relationships and friendships are not going well (even though we have solid communication skills), it is often because we are blind to our relationship patterns.
Group works well if you want to build self esteem, improve your relationships, or lessen social anxiety. Group is often suggested for those going through transitions like starting a business, the transition to parenthood, the process of divorce, or adjusting to a new city.
Rather than segment groups into specific "issues" like money, food, sex, sexual identity, sexual abuse, addiction, aggression, shyness, or self esteem, we find it more effective for individuals to speak about their current struggles and get support from a diverse group of people. This allows all group members to explore these issues and benefit in a wider variety of ways.
Group Therapy Room
There are three ongoing therapy groups that meet at my office. After a few consultation meetings we can decide which group is best for you. We typically suggest three or four meetings before we set a start date. Prices range from $180 - $225 a month or $45 - $60 a week for weekly 90-minute group therapy sessions. You may be able to file for "out of network" reimbursment from your insurance company depending on your benefits.
